Sleeping Bear Dunes 2

Sleeping Bear Dunes 2

Legend holds that a forest fire on the shore of Wisconsin forced a mother bear and her two cubs to escape into the Lake Michigan waters and cross to the other side. Although the mother bear survived, the young cubs did not, their graves forming the Manitou Islands. But, the mother bear kept hope and slept for days waiting for their return, representing the sand dunes that now make up the Sleeping Bear Dunes. A spin-off on our first design, this second Sleeping Bear Dunes version uses dark colors to navy blue paint to portray the sleeping bear and includes a moon-lit background to represent the dark nights that the mother bear endured.
